Whistler Day 5

 11 January

Rest Day

We all enjoyed our very much needed sleep in today. Getting up in the morning is a struggle and if I am honest, we are all getting a bit home sick and needy for some routine, wholesome food and a comfortable bed.

Maybe thats why we keep going back to Peaked Pies? 😆  Late breakfast / early lunch at the same today.

We have done quite a few of the apres activities previouslsy, and as they are quite expensive we have opted not to pursue these again. So today after a bit of shopping, we ventured into the gentle activity of soaprock carving. We opted for the shorter pendant making course, with even Steve seeming to enjoy himself. Steve made a heart shaped pendant, Belle a bear print, Joshua a dolphine and myself a bear. I think we were all pretty chuffed with our little projects.

It was just as well that we had chosen indoor activities as it was -11C at the Whistler base. Arctic Outflow warnings (essentially extreme cold and wind conditions, particularly in alpine areas) for today and the remainder of this week have been posted all week. Talking to a couple of the skiiers who went up today, the cold was tough. Many have the cold burns on their faces. While we were rugged up, you can feel the chill in the air, right through to the bones - not that this stopped us from having an ice-cream.

Early bed and readiness for what ever attempts at skiing we might make tomorrow.
