Whistler Day 7

13 January 2024

We hit the mountain as early as we could face and had the nicest day skiing. There was a so called weather conversion which meant warmer air in the mountains than in the village. I think that put the mountains at -10C. Given that we were rugged up for the coldest of weather, this actually wasnt too bad. The kids needed toe and hand warmers by mid-day. Thats not too bad given I saw others using the warmers on much warmer days. The whole side of my left foot was numb, but I am not sure whether this was because my foot about to freeze off, ......or, ..........my boots were compressing my foot - who knows, neither option could possibly good. Either way, my foot is still intact.

We spent most of the morning running our favourite green runs in the upper half of the mountain. Belle and Joshua took a couple of runs through an enchanted forrest a couple of time and had a bit of skiing fun while I stuck to trying to stay upright on the main runs.

We descided to take the final run down to midstation - most of the way down the mountain. The problem with this is that these tracks have the hightest tread and are quite icy. Joshua blitzed it while Belle and I took our time. I cant say I loved it, but by the time we got to mid-station, I actually felt a bit more confident about the ice. What it did highlight is how un-ski worthy my legs are. By the end of the day I really noticed how unresponsive my legs were. As such you loose the automation in the turns and really have to focus on what you are doing.

Joshua sailed it all the way to the village (over the ice) while Belle and I caught the gondala back to the bottom.

I did feel that a few more days and my ski confidence would have really been boosted. Oh well, we will have to see when we can manage another ski holiday.
